I had this drink at Mijo’s, an Asian/Latin-American fusion restaurant on Magnolia Ave. in Ft. Worth. It was such a good summer drink that I had to try and duplicate it at home. Here’s what I came up with:

2-3 sprigs of Thai basil
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz Simple Syrup
2 1/2 oz sake (I used Black & Gold)

Muddle the basil leaves in the bottom of a shaker and lightly bruise leaves. Shake with remaining ingredients and ice; strain into a rocks glass with ice through a fine mesh strainer (unless you like little pieces of leaves floating in your drink). On selection of sake, Black & Gold is a crisp, dry, filtered sake. If you can’t find B & G, look for one with similar properties. If you have a sweeter sake, consider using less simple syrup or none at all.

Drink up! Doctor’s Orders.
